Arrested were Jose Escutia, 20, of Elizabeth Street, Cedartown and Smith Carmona Escutia, 25, of McArthur Street, Cedartown.
Reports said the owner asked for police assistance in reference to individuals using illegal drugs at the vacant residence.
When the officers arrived on Sept. 29 they found several people in the yard. Police instructed those individuals now to come back.
Inside, the officers immediately smelled the odor of burnt marijuana, reports said. One officer saw a male subject, Smith, go into a room next to the kitchen. The officer asked Smith if anyone else was in the residence, and he replied, “Yes, my buddy.”
The officer called for the other subject, Jose, but he left the residence, reports said. The officer saw someone wearing a white hat walk in front of a window at the rear of the residence. Smith provided police with a name and address of the other suspect, reports said.
An officer found cigar wrappers, suspected marijuana on top of a cardboard box and a clear, plastic piece containing suspected methamphetamine.
Police arrived at Jose’s Elizabeth Street residence and spoke with his uncle. The uncle said Jose had just returned home.
Police located Jose attempting to leave the residence through a back door. He was wearing a white hat, reports said.
Jose told police he had been home all morning. Because of the conflicting stories, police arrested Jose as well.
Both suspects were charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
