The Berry College Concert Series opens its second season with a performance by the Maharlika Trio on Sept.16. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. in Ford Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Maharlika Trio is focused on writing, performing and commissioning music for their unique combination of saxophone, trombone and piano. Their repertoire includes everything from original classical works to transcribed jazz pieces and concerts with guest artists.

The group recently performed at conferences for the Georgia Music Educators Association, the College Music Society and the Southeastern Composers League. The trio is dedicated to arts education and devotes most of their time to educational arts projects.

Joren Cain, David Springfield and Maila Gutierrez Springfield started the trio in 2005. All three are professors at Valdosta State University in Valdosta.

Call 706-238-7960 for more information or check out the Performance Calendar for a complete list of fine arts events scheduled for the Berry campus.
