Polk County police have pinpointed some “persons of interest” in the case of a 77-year-old Rockmart man killed in July, but don’t have enough evidence for an arrest, said Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd.

“I wish we could make an arrest today, but we can’t do that without proper evidence,” Dodd said.

James Yarbrough was killed July 21 in his home at 544 Morgan Valley Road. Police have not revealed how he died because of the ongoing investigation.

Dodd said investigators have two or three people on a suspect list. Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and others to get information.

“Right now, we are processing evidence,” he said. “We have some things in the (State of Georgia) crime lab that we’re waiting on results for.”

Dodd said he had met Yarbrough in 1998 when he responded to a call at Yarbrough’s previous home. The call was a home invasion.

Dodd said a man tried to enter the Yarbrough home attempting to contact a girlfriend staying there.

Friends said Yarbrough was known to try to help several women in bad situations.
