Police are looking into the past of a Taylorsville man, arrested in Aragon on child molestation charges, for possible links to other cases.

“This is nowhere near over,” Aragon Police Chief Wayne Sanders said, adding that he has asked for assistance from a Paulding County unit specializing in crimes against children.

William Christopher Gayton, 19, of 202 John Kay Road, Taylorsville, was arrested July 21. Police said he had sex with a 13-year-old girl in his car in the Jake Belk field.

Gayton remains in the Polk County Jail on charges of statutory rape, child molestation, aggravated child molestation, public indecency, computer pornography and sexual exploitation of a minor.

No date has been set for his bond hearing.

Sanders said the girl had just turned 13 recently. The girl remains unidentified under a newspaper policy not to name victims in sexual assault cases. Likewise, the police department is withholding her name because of her age.

Sanders said the girl met Gayton on the computer. They began sending sexual notes and pictures to each other, which led to the computer pornography charge.

He said Gayton pulled his vehicle unreasonably close to the small concession stand in the park. A woman nearby saw them “having relations” and called 911.

An Aragon officer caught them in the act, according to reports.

Gayton was arrested at the scene.
