Being a sports writer is a lot of fun. Not only do you get free access to a ton of games, but you also get the chance to make a lot of kids happy by putting their names and photos in the newspaper.

However, covering sports games is not always as easy as some people may think. Keeping accurate statistics, discovering a theme for the game story and trying to snap the perfect action photo can be challenging at times.

That’s why it was so much fun recently when I was able to go to a Rome Braves game as a fan and not have to worthy about anything but watching and enjoying the game.

Do not get me wrong, I love being a sports writer and I enjoy writing about games. But some times, it is great to be able to sit back and watch a game without having to keep up with all the small details.

On Saturday, June 19 the Atlanta Braves minor league affiliate defeated the Charleston, S.C. Riverdogs 11-6 at State Mutual Stadium and I was able to do just what I’ve been saying, and that is sit back and take in a game without having to work.

During that game, I was able to see Cory Harrilchak hit his first home run of the season for the Rome Braves.

It was my first game at State Mutual this season and it brough back memories of how family-friendly minor league contests are.

I encourage you, if you are a sports fan at all and you need to take a break and enjoy yourself, then visit a Rome Braves game soon.

I know it was refreshing for me.
