Hilburn Field was lined off and markers set in place for the Rockmart Yellow Jackets’ annual Black and Gold game last Friday.

But despite holding off until the last possible moment, the football team’s spring came to an abrupt and uneventful end as the annual intra-squad scrimmage was canceled just a few hours before its scheduled start.

Head coach Dan Duff and school officials made the call around 3 p.m. following heavy rains that had soaked the region since early Friday morning.

Buzz, that is NOT the way the GHSA works (getting approval to extend dates etc.) I had a team playing for a region champ. a few years back and they wouldn't even extend the date to finish the series after we had a deluge of rain. Theytold us we'd have to flip a coin to settle it if we couldn't get the game in.

GHSA sucks.

I know just seems DD could have tried to get rescheduled for Saturday with the approval of the GHSA. If I had to say he didn't even try cause he didn't want to rock the boat with them.

There were two games to be played. The middle school was to play before the high school. The decission was made at 3:00 because of that. And it was still coming down at that time. Rescheduling was not an opion because of GHSA rules.

Yes Sir, I agree with you 85Jacket. On the Practice Field would have been better than nothing!

Duff here is a idea. Why not play the game on your practice field. I know there was a lot of disappointed players that did not get to play because we have a coach that can not make a good decision. That is why we will loss to Cedartown again and have another average season.

I guess he was afraid his boy's would get a little wet and have a little Mud on their Uniforms. It had stop raining by 4:30pm and the Sun was out. Just another case of not getting them ready to play Cedartown and in shape to play. If Hilburn was to Wet, they could have played it on their on home field, it would have took 30 minutes to and hour to put down some sort of lines on the field and the Endzone.Man, I wish Rockmart would have got a new Head Varsity Football Coach.CDD is a good of fellow as they are, just not a good Football Coach.
