The NAIA Championship Game will be played at Barron Stadium in Rome on Dec. 20. To add to the excitement of the national championship, the Rome News-Tribune is sponsoring a half-time "Target Toss" where one lucky person will have the chance to win a prize worth more than $24,000.
One person will be selected in a drawing from entry forms placed in official entry boxes around the region.
That person will then have a chance to throw a regulation size football 25 yards through a hole in a target.
If the participant successfully throws the football through the hole, he or she will win one-year tuition — valued at $24,100 — to Shorter College.
The NAIA championship host committee in Rome is glad to see events such as the Target Toss coming together.
“The committee thinks it will add to the atmosphere of the game,” said Jim Williams, chairman of the Special Programs Committee for the championship. “It will be fun. We’re really excited about the target toss. It will definitely add to the half-time festivities.”
Official entry forms for the Target Toss will appear in the Rome News-Tribune as well as other News Publishing Co. newspapers, which include the Calhoun Times, Cedartown Standard, Rockmart Journal, Catoosa County News, Walker County Messenger and Cherokee County Herald.
There is no limit on the number of entry forms submitted by any qualified person, however, the forms must be official forms from the newspaper. No photocopies will be accepted.
Completed entry forms may be submitted at entry boxes at any of the following locations: Rome News-Tribune and all NPCO newspaper offices; Just Sports in Rome; Owens Hardware & Sporting Goods in Rome; Shorter College Winthrop-King in Rome; and the Cedartown Performing Arts Center .
The deadline to submit entry forms is Dec. 12. The winner will be drawn on Dec. 16.
“I think it’s going to be a good week,” Williams said of the championship game and related activities.
