The Northwest Probation Detention Center provides housing for 200 male detainees, who will be transferred to other state facilities starting this week. Work details will be reassigned to the Paulding Probation Detention Center in Dallas. The Center’s 59 employees will be offered positions at other GDC facilities.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
The Georgia Department of Corrections announced today the closure of the 200-bed Northwest Probation Detention Center in Cedartown effective May 1, 2010. The Department anticipates a savings of approximately $500,000 in direct operational costs for Fiscal Year 2010.
