regarding mandatory leave of absence for county employees who choose to be candidates for a political office.
The group, following a closed session, authorized County Manager Clinton Lester to take action against employees who choose not to take their leave.
Commissioners also approved an amendment to address repeat violations and to provide for an effective and efficient compliance of the current Polk County Animal Control Ordinance.
The change emphasizes that any person convicted of a second offense for violating the terms of the ordinance can be deprived of the right to keep an animal of the same species or any species at the Judge's discretion for a minimum of two years.

Leash laws, fencing laws so that animals do not run loose, would be excellent tools to protect animals.
And people who dump animals should be caught and prosecuted. (Now I might fleetingly feel that people who abandon animals to starve should be taken out to Treat Mountain and dumped themselves, to try to find food and water, as punishment for their crimes, but that's no doubt too harsh.)
The people who dump kittens and puppies are the ones who will scream that they have a right to have animals and let them have litter after litter......but if they care for animals at all, they will care for the offspring of those animals. And if they can't place kittens and puppies by selling them, or giving them to family and friends, then spaying/neutering should be done.
