Police and emergency personnel working Christmas Eve decided to help Santa restore gifts taken from an 8-year-old boy in a holiday burglary.

The burglary happened late afternoon Dec. 24 at the home of the Gibbs’ family on West Aragon Road in Aragon.

Daniel Gibbs none of the high-end electronic equipment was taken from the home, but most of the presents he and his wife bought for their son was stolen.

The loss is valued at more than $2,000, reports said.

Capt. Dwayne Alexander with the Aragon Police Department said he doesn’t have the names of everyone involved, but those working that night felt bad the little boy would have virtually nothing to open Christmas morning.

So, police officers from Aragon and the Polk County Police Department, along with personnel from the Polk 911 Center, bought toys and gifts late Christmas Eve and delivered them to the Gibbs’ in the wee hours of Christmas day.

Alexander said it was a spontaneous effort on the part of the officers and personnel.

“One of my sergeants called me early that morning and told me they had resolved the situation,” he said.

Police still have not made an arrest in the case, but are continuing with the investigation.
