While most folks are dreaming of all the food they will eat next Thursday for Thanksgiving, a select few at Cedartown High School are instead thinking of ways to maintain their weight. That’s because the Bulldogs wrestling season will begin the week of Thanksgiving and with guys being placed into certain weight divisions, that means they can’t eat too many goodies on Turkey Day.
Jerry Hartline, who helped get wrestling brought back to Cedartown three years ago, returns as the Bulldogs taskmaster this winter after a one year hiatus.
Hartline will inherit several good wrestlers, including Daniel Williams, Mikey Warner, Leo Cordero and Brooklyn Cotton. Freshman Jordan Watkins also has the potential to have a stellar season.
"Overall as a team we are young," Hartline said about the team that has only five seniors on its 24 man roster. "But we have a handful of guys who could have really good seasons."
Hartline said practice has been going well so far.
"We’ve got a lot of work to do because we are young and inexperienced but they are out here working hard," Hartline said. "I truly believe we have three of four guys who could be state qualifiers this year and that’s big with us being only a third-year program."
