A Cedartown man faces burglary charges after he allegedly tried to steal items from a shop damaged in a fire on Vinson Mountain Road.

Jason Heath Brogdon, 35, of 120 Sunset Valley St., Cedartown, faces a burglary charge from the incident occurring Nov. 11. He remains in the Polk County Jail.

According to Polk County Police Department reports, an officer was patrolling in the Vinson Mountain area when he saw a small blue pick-up pulling away from the burned building.

The officer said he spoke to the driver, identified as Brogdon, who said he was dropping off a few things from the owner.

However, the officer had responded to the fire so he knew the items in the truck bed matched items in the shop.

The officer called the property owner, who told him no one was supposed to be on the property, reports said.

When the officer began questioning Brogdon, he told the officer the items came from a friend’s shop. However, he admitted to taking the items when the officer asked him about some of burned items.

According to reports, Brogdon told the officer he took the items because he “just needed the money from the crap to buy gas to go to Alabama.”

The items were turned over to the property owner’s son.

Just so all the neighbors know...he has not lived at this address for over a year and never changed it on his drivers license.
