Police officers, firefighters and staff from Atlanta Gas Light Company responded to a gas leak at the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and Goodyear Street, Rockmart, Tuesday.

The streets are now open to traffic.

However, streets were closed and traffic was routed onto Pearl Street and Hogue Avenue for several hours yesterday.

Atlanta Gas Light came around 10:30 a.m. and staff squeezed down its lines until permanent repairs can be made.

The leak was the result of a contractor boring in fiber cable and bored into one of the lines.
