Effective immediately, the Polk County Water Authority has issued a "Boiled Water Advisory".

Manager Dick Martin advises customers to boil all water for consumption for a minimum of two (2) minutes until further notice.

This mandate is necessary because of the flooding of Euharlee Creek which has over flowed into Deaton Spring. This means that the Authority cannot pump, filter and treat water from the spring until the flood subsides and bacterial testing (if necessary) has been completed with negative results.

This does not apply to citizens using City of Cedartown or City of Rockmart's water system. Additionally, this does not apply to Vinson Mountain residents whose water is purchased by the Authority from Paulding County.

Martin said this advisory could be effective until Saturday, but he is not sure until results of test samples are received.

I would just like to say thank you to the county for this warning. I would also like to say shame on you POLK SCHOOL BOARD. I am a parent and I have just found out that there is nothing being done to protect our kids. Basically, If you don't want them to drink the water then you better have sent some with them. The school board has not provided nothing for the kids. WHAT ABOUT THERE SAFETY, WE TRUST YOU WITH OUR KIDS. NOT EVERY PARENT CAN AFFORD TO GO GET BOTTLE WATER. WHAT IS THE SPLOST FOR THAT WE GIVE THE BOE??????
