Early returns were favorable Tuesday night for three incumbent Cedartown City Commissioners seeking re-election.

According to preliminary returns, John Barrett had 523 votes, Scotty Tillery had 565 and Commission Chairman Larry Odom had 471.

Also seeking election were Jimmy Holland and Forrest McCombs Sr. Holland tallied 431 votes and McCombs had 329. Neither will take office.

The Cedartown commission does not have precincts, and the seats are filled by the three candidates with the most votes.

Meanwhile, the count was completed by around 7:15 p.m. in the City of Aragon, which had two seats open in a regular election, and a third seat available in a special election.

Incumbent Curtis Burrus failed in his re-election bid by just three votes.

Like Cedartown, Aragon's seats are not tied to precincts. Burrus had 36 votes and another incumbent, Beverly Clinton had 38 votes. Candidate Patricia Jackson had the most votes, with 44. Clinton and Jackson will be seated.

In Aragon's special election, Eugene Smith won with 40 votes, edging out Cynthia Smith, who had 23 votes. This was to fill the position formerly held by Sadie Pittman, who resigned.

Note: edited at 8:39 p.m. with updated election returns.
