The Rockmart High School basketball teams have begun to condition for its season openers at home on Nov. 17 against Ringgold High School.

Last years basketball team had a final record of 13 wins and 14 losses, which are two numbers Head Coach Jermaine Bigham plan to change.

“I’m excited about this season,” said Bigham. “We’ve got our top eight scores back, so we’ll jut see what the other teams in the sub-region and region bring.”

During the 2008-0 season, the Rockmart boys placed fourth in the sub-region. The team was very young with only one senior starter on the roster, which is why the team has set their goals higher with most of the roster consisting of returning players.

Since Bigham came to Rockmart, the basketball team has finished in third or fourth in the sub-region every year, but he feels this years team is the best one he has had yet.

The basketball team will find hard games coming from strong teams such as Dade County and Chattooga.

Coach Bigham plans on pushing this years team harder since they are all returning players, but the increased conditioning is taking its effect as minor injuries effect some of the boys.

The guys team will be mostly led by the very talented junior class members but seniors such as Phillip Hunt and Johnathan Davis will definetly prove their worth. Younger talent such as sophomore Tony Mitchell is receiving Bigham’s compliments for his performance thus far.
