This year's high school wrestling coaching staff will consist of a new face along with some well known ones.
New Head Coach John Garner is a 2001 graduate of Mt. Zion High School in Carroll County where he lettered in both Football and Wrestling. He received his Bachelor's Degree in History and Secondary in Education in 2008 and this is his second year at RMS.
Assistant Coach Ronnie Davis is a returning alumni with four state championships under his belt. He is also featured in Rockmart High School's Hall of Fame.
Community Coach Keith Lindsey, is a returning member and has been with the program for over 15 years.
The Rockmart Middle School wrestling team will be coached by Kris Maynard.
The bar has been set high this year, and a combination of the program's history and the stellar staff, winning is certainly on the team's mind.
Coach Garner believes winning the state championship is very possible and he's already noticed wrestlers start to show their leadership and talent with over two weeks before the season starts.
Summer workouts also proved their dedication as wrestlers continued to return.
Garner knows this team will be one that will win with numerous displays of determination and drive as one day at practice he picked a class and would tell them they could sit this lesson out but not a single student in any class decided to stop working and take a break. All the guys are ready to win and ready to do the training necessary to win.
The first round of matches should go well for this team as they'll face off against Gordon Central and Pickens County on Nov. 20 at Gordon Central.
The team will also have five tournaments this year, with more matches than in previous years. A varsity starter will average 42 matches.
