A Silver Creek man was arrested Sunday and charged with burglary and battery stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred in 2008.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Raymond Lee Downs, 36, of 211 Chamber Mill Road, was arrested by Floyd County Sheriff’s deputies around 2 p.m. He was charged with felony criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamines; felony burglary; battery; simple battery; three counts of cruelty to children in the second degree; and probation violation.

According to Floyd County police warrants, in September and October 2008, Downs entered a residence on McGee Bend Road without permission with the intent of committing a crime. He also allegedly struck and choked a female victim on several occasions, including once in the presence of three small children.

Police said he was in possession of a bag containing tubing, filters, chemicals, antifreeze, drain cleaner and other materials used in the manufacture of methamphetamines. Downs remains in jail because of a probation violation.
