The Cedartown City Commission Monday night approved conditional use requests for two churches and for a physical therapy clinic.

Public hearings were heard at 7 p.m., prior to the commission's regular business, for projects proposed by All of God's Children church, Worldview Baptist Church and Floyd Healthcare Management, Inc.

All of God's Children plans to use an existing building at 1335 S. Main St. as its new church location. The building is in a light industrial (IND-L) zoning. Several people were on hand to speak in favor of the project. No one spoke out against it.

The project had been reviewed and approved by the Cedartown Planning Commission, pending formal approval of the city commission. The Cedartown City Commission gave its approval Monday night.

The other church project is for construction of a new building next to the existing Worldview Baptist Church structures, at 500 College Drive. The new building will be located to the north of the church's other buildings. The area is zoned residential.

No one came to speak out against the proposal. A church deacon and the pastor made comments supporting the conditional use request. The Planning Commission had reviewed the project and given its OK. Commissioners approved the conditional use request.

The third request came from Floyd Healthcare Management, Inc., and was for a proposed outpatient physical therapy clinic to be located at 801 N. Main St. The property is in a commercial (C-2) zone. The Planning Commission had given its approval after a review and the conditional use was approved by the city commission.

Among other business, the commission read proclamations.

In recognition of area National Guard members, Nov. 8, 2009 has been proclaimed 1-108th Calvalry Day, in recognition of the service of members of the 1st Squadron, 108th Cavalry Regiment. The Georgia National Guard's 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1-108th was deployed to Afghanistan on March 1.

Another city proclamation designates the week of Oct. 19-23 as Red Ribbon Week. The National Red Ribbon Week, held each October, calls attention to "the devastating effects of drug and alcohol abuse on individuals, families and communities," the proclamation notes.

The city commission also heard presentations from delegations and took care of some old business. These will be reported in detail in a followup stor on this website.

Seems JeannieMLW has WAY TOO MUCH TIME to pester and harass good people. How's that? No one booking hair cuts? No friends, no clients. People know. She probably sits at home all day watching Jerry Springer, eating donuts, bothering people who have better lives than hers. Pathetic, huh?. Seems she wants people to hate her. She should send herself a birthday card. It'll make her feel better. Can someone give her something constructive to do like building an orphanage in China?

Well said, helpulove. Always a complainer in every bunch. You couldn't pay me to do the job those board members do fo free. I can't remember the last time cedartown and rockmart have come together for any sporting event. I love it and think it is working out great!

"Jeannie M",We know that you are good at fake names and false accusations, but I really want to know what you do to make this community a better place?! I think the PCYB volunteers have done a great job this fall working with Rockmart and the Rec Director. I have only witnessed good relations between all! You must have your information wrong as always!!!!!Try volunteering and helping the world instead of personal vendettas and bashing of good people! God blesses those that helps others!

jeannie, No one said he didn't deserve a chance, but alot of people don't know what goes into it. The problem I had with your post os the way you downed th PCYB program. Those men did it to help, no one is perfect atleast they were trying. Its more than alot of people do. Most just sit sround and complain, yet never step up to the task. If you would like toknow public can come to any board meeting. They invited the public several times, but hardly anyone showed up. It's easier to talk about people and the job their doing if you don't know what's really going on .Gossip is better that way, from what I'e seen. What ever happens I hope it works out. I don't think anyone would mind if they city get it as long as it is ran with pride.THat;s all I want.

Annon, I'm sorry but I think the Rec Director deserves a chance. He is new to the job, very qualified and highly educated. Yet, he steps into a small town like this one, that I have lived in my whole life and has to deal with the good ole boys, who have always had control of baseball and are not willing to change things.

Let him do his job. The city should take it over. Dont they pay the bills anyway? Then hold open public elections for a Parent Advisory Board. Not a CZAR like Board that it has had for years. I know people would volunteer to help. I'd do anything for my children. I know most parents would.

Mr Barrow, is from the previous Board. I know alot of participants were very upset with the spring season, as well as other seasons.

The program is dwindling away. Players are going to Rockmart and Rome. Get into Contact with Rockmart and ask them how many Players they have had to move to Rockmart over the past 2 years. Its alot. Cedartown cant afford to loose all of the kids. They deserve a local program.

Mr Barrow needs to step down, and allow for a real public election.

I like the "Survey" He posted on the PCYB website. He posted it on Saturday, and the Meeting was on Monday. There is no way that there could have been an accurate poll of the Citizens of Cedartown in that ammount of time. Unless Mr Barrow's intent was to have just the people he wanted to vote, to vote.

Also, the email he sent out only to the people he wanted to have it. Which ended up in alot of peoples inbox as a big joke. It was forwarded around alot, according to the header. I loved some of the commentary people added as they forwarded it on. LOL, very entertaining.

Stop trying to be a Czar, and let the public take over. Hold annual elections, so if someone isnt doing things right, they get voted off. Hold Monthly meetings for people to voice thier concerns. Give everyone a chance to participate.

You cant continue to run things the way you have for the past few years. With no one to oversee you, your behavior, the money taken in, and etc.

Have you provided the city with a Financial Report for the past few years? I'm curious.

It would be public record. So, I will call today to obtain a copy of that.

Get the message, Its not your Program. It is the Citis Program.

to quote JeannieM "Until you walk a mile in a man's shoes, you have no idea of the journey he has taken!"

I have to totally agree. The board for PCYB does all its work for FREE!!! Volunteers. So how can people say its for themselves. I feel that if the city takes it over people will be hesitate to help out because, people are getting paid to do the job. As for a disaster, look at the flag football situation. DISASTER! WHy would fall ball be considered a disaster? I go down there to watch my child play and besides the rain situation, it has went very smoothly. I know flag football is down to 3 teams with 5 players on each team. Now that Works! my intentions were not to come on here and bash the city, but I get on here and see bashing of the Board. Same old, different day. I'm also sure its by people who have yet to volunteer to make it better. You have NO IDEA how much time has been put into the ball program this year if you haven't did it yourself. So JeannieM your quote is perfect! Walk a mile a board member's shoes. They are QUITE HEAVY!!! And No One Pays for them!

pk,

Major changes need to take place in Youth baseball in Cedartown. Why would

anyone have "to much faith in our new rec directoor?" "your so called fall rec program is a disaster"

Hmmm, think because it has gone neglected for years? so many people calling to get info and sign up, previous to the current Rect Directorl

Do you know how many kids were run off during those years?

The new Rec Director stepped into an empty pair of shoes with many years of spider webs!

So, should he be expected to "snap" his fingers and "Twinkle" his nose to make

all the previous wrongs right? NOOOOOOOO! Time will tell, and hard work

as well. However, if the PCYB vultures have anyting to do with it. Our wonderful Rec Director doesnt have

a chance.

Citiizens of Cedartown and Polk Co stand up for yor kids

We need thre ReC dept in charge

I'm in agreement that some new faces need to be in place in our youth baseball program. I think you have way to much faith in our new rec. director. Just look at our fall rec program. It is a disaster. I really beleive in David Barrow as the PCYB president, I beleive he is truly trying to get our program back to what it used to be, and he is here for all the children in Cedartown and not just his own. I beleive if this program is run under grpa(rec run baseball) that Cedartown will not have enough children or coaches to have a baseball program in Cedartown anymore.

Heard that Polk Co Youth Baseball (PCYB) 2010 President David Barrow went to Trash the Rec Dept at the City Council Meeting tonight. Didnt make it, but hope to find out what went down soon.

PCYB should be thrown off the fields as soon as the Fall BaseBall Season is over. They have done nothing but run players off from Cedartown, into other Leagues (Rockmart #1 and Rome) How sad.

The PCYB sole purpose has been for advancement of their own kids and Teams, as well as making money off of tournaments!

Let the City Recreation Dept take over. Elect a NEW BOARD. And Progress on, as they deserve too. Especially for the CHILDREN OF CEDARTOWN.

Johnny Morris, is the most Highly Educated, Qualified, Experienced Person that we could have as the Director of the Cedartown Recreation Department. He can Make things happen with this City, if the Self Serving, Selfish, Theives would let him do his job.

No, I'm not him. Nor am I a Family Member. But I do support him, and we all should!

If you have members of the PCYB Board or their Friends spitting poision into your ears, please dont listen. Give the City a Chance. Give the Recreation Dept A Chance. They Deserve it!

Until you walk a mile in a man's shoes, you have no idea of the journey he has taken!

Thank you Jeannie M
