A black tie gala honoring member and civic leader, Sue Wieland, for a lifetime of service will be held Nov. 7 at the Piedmont Driving Club, 1215 Piedmont Ave. NE, Atlanta. Cocktails and Silent Auction will begin at 7 p.m. and the dinner, a live auction and dancing will begin 8 p.m. Tickets will be $150 per person. Patron tickets, including tickets to the exclusive patron party on Sept. 24 at Newcastle, the home of Judy and Ed Garland, are $250 per person.
The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. will host approximately 700 business, civic and community leaders at this premier fundraiser to support the League’s mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. This year’s black tie event, themed “Celebrate,” will also honor League member Sue Wieland for her longtime work to improve the lives of women and children in Atlanta. Wieland’s leadership has been instrumental in the development of many community initiatives including Woodruff Arts Center, The Atlanta Women’s Foundation, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, The Westminster Schools, Families First, Atlanta Children’s Shelter and the Alliance Theatre, among others.
The 2009 Junior League of Atlanta Ball is presented by Belk. Formerly known as the Junior League of Atlanta Charity Ball, this year’s event has been enhanced to include a cocktail hour followed by dinner, dancing and silent and live auctions.
Proceeds from this premier fundraising event are used to train and educate League members for effective community service, as well as to financially support projects and programs where League volunteers serve.
Focused on improving the health, education and welfare of women and children, The Junior League of Atlanta serves as a much-needed volunteer resource and as a catalyst for positive change through partnerships with more than 90 nonprofit organizations in our community. These partners include the Atlanta Children’s Shelter, the Atlanta Speech School and Grady Health System. In 2008, the Junior League of Atlanta raised more than $700,000 in support of its mission and reached more than 650,000 women and children through community volunteer efforts.
