Approximately 132 cases are set to go on trial in September in Superior Court Judge Michael Murphy’s courtroom with a calendar call set for Friday, according to court paperwork.

There will be two weeks of criminal trials beginning Sept. 8.

A majority of the cases are for drug-related crimes, thefts, forgeries, burglaries, aggravated assaults and driving violations.

However, one woman is going to trial on vehicular homicide charges, two are facing charges of statutory rape and one is facing a charge of child molestation.

Annette Laverne Foster is being tried on charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and after a Feb. 21, 2006 accident that killed Joyce Mitchell Chambers.

According to court information, the incident occurred at the red light of Highway 278 and Georgia Highway 113. Foster is accused of running a red light striking Chambers, who had the green light.

Retta Lynn Thomason is facing a charge of statuary rape relating to an alleged June 27, 2004 incident, with a 13-year-old male relative at her home at 1288 Stringer Road. According to the original police report, the boy said Thomason’s husband gave him marijuana and then dared him to have sex with Mrs. Thomason.

Jerry Dewayne Yancey is charged with two counts of child molestation, two counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of aggravated sodomy.

There are several alleged incidents said to have occurred between March 17, 2002, and January 1, 2007, involving a female child who was under the age of 10 at the time of the first incident and under the age of 16 when the case was reported.

Ovidio Sales Mendez is going to trial on charges of statutory rape, two counts of aggravated child molestation, three counts of rape, two counts of child molestation and sexual battery.

His case stems from incidents alleged between March 26, 2007 and July 2008, with a female child under the age of 16.
