On Friday, Cedartown High School welcomed its students to the 2009-2010 school year with music, decorations, and a giant, blow-up bulldog.

Students old and new were surprised to see excited teachers and staff right inside the doors on the first day of classes.

CHS faculty donned graduation attire, and the upcoming freshman class was greeted with a gauntlet of cheers and celebration. Teachers were also helping students to their classes and providing directions and information about schedules and the day's events.

Hal David, principal, hopes that such a reception might improve graduation numbers and facilitate high school completion.

I am impressed! Something like this would have made me feel special and would have been a great motivator for me to stay in school and to graduate. Being creative is the key to reaching today's generation of kids. Don't let it end with the first day of school but Keep up the good work all year long and see the difference it can and will make in the lives of our children.
