United Fund of Rockmart held its annual 2008-2009 Campaign Kickoff on Thursday, Oct. 9. The goal for the 2008-2009 fiscal year is $30,000.

Shelva Ruff, Board of Directors member, said United Fund helped 113 famlies through Oct. 8. Families have been helped in the following ways:

Georgia Power bills, 98 families; natural gas or propane, nine families; medicine, two families; house fires, three families; water bill, one family.

That brought the total to 113 families.

Sherman Ross, Chairman of the Board of Directors, stated, “We are looking for families in Rockmart or Aragon that need our assistance. If you know of any families that may need our help, please have them call us.”

United Fund was formed in 1967 and it is not affiliated with United Way.

It is a non-profit organization, designed to provide specific financial help to needy families of Rockmart and Aragon.

The organization helps one family every 12 months, working with churches, Helping Hands ministry and other groups to supply help to local families. Engineered Fabrics is the current largest contributor of United Fund.

“We appreciate the support of our long time contributors and would like to encourage other businesses within the area to contact us about getting involved in the program for their employees,” Ross said.

United Fund of Rockmart can be reached at 770-684-2710.
