Free health fair this weekend invites residents of Polk Co.

The eighth annual Health Initiative for Men is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15 beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The four-hour event, sponsored by 100 Black Men of Rome-Northwest Ga. Inc., will meet at the Floyd Co. Health Dept., located at 16 E. 12th St. in Rome.

Light refreshments will be provided and there will be door prizes and mini-chair massages for registered participants.

There will be free health screenings for cholesterol, diabetes, vision, prostate cancer, skin caner, stroke, blood pressure, weight and body mass, nodular neck exams, and aids screenings.

Blood Assurance will also be on-site to collect donations.

Experts will also provide free information about domestic violence, substance abuse, physical fitness, depression, healthy eating/living, anxiety, and STDs.

Sponsors of the event include Harbin Clinic, Floyd Medical Center, Redmond Regional Medical Center, Floyd Count Health Dept., Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition, Blue Ridge Area health Education Center, L’Amour DeSoeur Social Club, Northwest Ga. Public Health, the American Cancer Society, ARC, and Pfizer.

The event is absolutely free and everyone is invited.
