Keep Polk Beautiful is the coordinating agency, but the work is being performed by church youth groups, senior citizens, neighborhood organizations and a variety of other civic-minded organizations.
"We would like for anyone associated with your organization, be it adults, children, youth, seniors, or just club members to choose an area and get out that day and pick up litter and anything else they wish to do to improve the appearance," Sharon Coffman, KPB executive director, said in an appeal that recently went out countywide.
Groups that have already signed up include: the Pilot Club, the Optimist Club, Exchange Club, Cedartown First Baptist Church Youth, Collard Valley Baptist Youth, Silver Comet Trailrangers, Rockmart High School Kappa Pi Beta Environmental Club, Eastside Elementary Beta Club, Goodyear Elementary Jr. Beta Club, Jefferson Southern Corporation, Cedartown Wal-Mart, Rockmart Wal-Mart and Polk County 4-H.
Volunteers will be provided trash bags if needed, and also signs to mark the area cleaned afterward.
Some groups may choose to simply pick up roadside litter along a stretch of rural highway. Others may want to clean up a section of a creek, or a community park.
