Yet to be determined.
Those were the words spoken by Panthers President Michael Atwater when talking about what field the travel youth football league will play on this fall in Cedartown.
Despite having nowhere to play, Atwater and the Panthers are moving forward and have released their 2009 football schedule.
According to Atwater, the Panthers will host the Cedartown Football Classic on Aug. 22-23 with 17 teams competing. Atwater is expecting a team from Alabama and a team from Kentucky to come play in the tournament as well as numerous teams from Georgia such as Rockmart, Flowery Branch, Covington, Macon, Gray, Stone Mountain, Fairburn, Darlington, two from Rome and four from Marietta. The Panthers will be the 17th team competing in the two-day event.
“We guarantee three games for each team,” Atwater said. “And we have legendary coach Doc Ayers coming to give the opening speech and to do the coin toss.”
Atwater, who opened preseason practice with the Panthers this week, says the travel football team will kick-off the season on Aug. 29 at home against Milford.
The Cedartown squad will then visit Mt. Carmel on Sept. 5 and Marietta on Sept. 12 before returning to Polk County to host Winston on Sept. 19. Atwater’s teams will visit Rockmart Sept. 26 and host Southwest on Oct. 3.
Oct. 10 has Wallace Park visiting the Panthers and on Oct. 17 the Panthers visit Milford. On Oct. 24, the local team will host Mt. Carmel for their Homecoming games. Atwater’s teams have Oct. 31 off before opening the playoffs the first weekend in November.
