An autopsy was planned Monday on a Polk County man who was shot and killed Saturday in front on his home, authorities said.

Anthony Burge Sr., 36, of 241 Morgan Valley Road, Rockmart, died from a gunshot wound at an Atlanta hospital on Saturday evening, Polk County Deputy Coroner Tony Brazier

said.

Arrested in connection with the shooting was Danrael Shaun Stocks, 28, of Rockmart.

Burge reportedly had an altercation earlier in the day with Stocks and was shot once outside his home at about 6:30 p.m., Brazier said.

According to Polk County Police Chief Billy Wills, Burge

was sitting on a four-wheeler in his yard when he was shot with an unknown firearm. He then ran to his carport where he collapsed and was later found by authorities.

“He was treated at the scene by Polk County EMS and airlifted by Emory Flight to Grady Memorial Hospital,” Brazier said. “Surgeons attempted to save his life, but he died as a result of his injuries in the operating room there at 8:16 p.m.”

Stocks had fled the scene before police arrival, but turned himself in at the Polk County Jail around 11 p.m.

Polk County police detectives were continuing their investigation as of press time Monday morning and additional details, including possible motive, were not released.

The body was taken to the Northwest Regional Crime Lab in Summerville, where the autopsy had been planned.

Polk County police were assisted by the GBI and Polk County Fire Department.
