The county school board’s personnel/policy committee voted Tuesday night to recommend a pay raise for board members that would bring compensation to the same level as that tendered to county commissioners.

The Polk County Commission pays commissioners a flat rate of $500 per month.

If approved, the proposal would double the monthly pay for most of the board.

Committee members said the increase is needed to ensure a vibrant and active board in the face of rampant population growth and the problems that will come with it.
