Polk County School Resource Officer Sgt. Matt Meeks has recently been placed on administrative leave, County Manager Wayne Johnson confirmed last week.

According to Polk County Police Chief Billy Wills, the case is currently under investigation by the Rome Police Department and details of why Meeks was placed on administrative leave could not be revealed at this time. However, Wills said he expects the investigation to be complete this week.

The Standard’s efforts to reach Meeks by telephone were unsuccessful. On his voicemail message, Meeks said that he was on “long term sick leave.”
