Master Sanders

Master Logan Ezra Sanders, age 6, of Cedartown passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2006. He was born on June 2, 1999 in Floyd County.

He attended the Church of God of the Union Assembly and was also a first grader at Westside Elementary School.

He is survived by his parents, Zach and Colleetoe Sanders; a sister, Bailey Sanders; maternal grandparents, Lonnie and Ann Starnes; paternal grandparents, Tony and Connie McElwee; great grandmothers, JoAnn Sanders and Gertrude “Tootsie” Friar. Also surviving are a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral arrangements were conducted Thursday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at The Church of God of the Union Assembly with Rev. Leon Allen officiating.

Pallbearers were Patrick Allen, Jordan Starnes, Tran Sisk, Mathew McElwee, LaBray Allen and Dustan Dayton.

The family is receiving flowers, however, donations can be made to the Church of God of the Union Assembly in memory of Master Sanders at 1512 S. Main St., Cedartown.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gentry

Mr. Jesse Lee Gentry, 64, of 394 Cashtown Road, Aragon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006.

Mr. Gentry was born June 28, 1941 in Bartow County, son of the late Stanley and Louise Welchel Gentry. He was a retired mechanic, a former employee of Hughes Chevrolet, and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Gentry, Harold Gentry and Eldon Gentry.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Brenda Welchel Gentry of Centre, Ala.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glen Lee Gentry and Angie Gentry of Aragon, Jason Franklin Gentry amd Jessica Gentry of Cartersville; a sister, Mrs. Myrtice Robinson of Aragon; a brother, Mr. Elmer Gentry of Rockmart; one granddaughter; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Gentry and Rev. Buddy McBride officiating.

The family asked that flowers be omitted, and anyone wishing to do so, may make contributions toward hospital expenses for Mr. Gentry.

Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Astin

Mrs. Martha Dean Astin, 77, of Cedartown passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006. She was born on June 5, 1928 in Polk County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lincoln and Bessie Carter Watson; husband, Charles Astin; sisters, Mary Brown, Ruth Payne, Jeanette Watson, Judy Watters and Betty Jane Gable.

Surviving are daughters, Jane Morgan and Lane Davis; a son, James Hogue; sister, Patsy Cole and Maxie Lindsey; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The funeral service was conducted Friday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Delton Harne officiating. Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers were Adam Willingham, Wayne Brown, Mark Watters, Kevin Watters, Kyle Watters and Matt Sirmans.

Mr. Wade

Clinton A. Wade, 28, of the Springdale Apartments, Perry Farm Road, Cave Spring, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006.

A native of Sewickley, Pa., he was born there Jan. 19, 1977, son of Max A. and Margaret Jane Miller Kremin.

He had lived in the Cave Spring area for about 20 years and had attended the Georgia School of the Deaf and was a graduate of the Alabama School for the Deaf in 1998.

He worked part-time at Pappy’s Place Café in Cave Spring and attended the Live Oak Baptist Church in Cave Spring and the Valley Forge Baptist Church for the Deaf in Rome.

Mr. Wade was preceded in death by his adoptive father, Marion “Bud” Wade in 1998.

Surviving include his mother, Margaret Miller Kremin Wade Redden and his step father, J.C. Redden, Jr. both of Forney, Ala.; his maternal grandparents, Albert and Phyllis Miller of Cave Spring’ his paternal grandparents, Max and Thelma Kremin of Coraopolis, Pa.; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Live Oak Baptist Church with the Revs. Jason Willis, Ben Clemmons and Mace Fenner officiating. Interment followed in the Roundtop Cemetery in Cave Spring.

Mrs. Parris

Mrs. Lillian Ophelia Parris, 94, of Cedartown passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2006. She was born September 15, 1911 in Polk County.

Mrs. Parris was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Mary Agnes Hampton; husband, William Hoyt Parris; sons, William Walter Parris and James Loyd Parris; two grandchildren and one great grandchild; seven brother and four sisters.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse and Pat Parris, Rev. Roger and Lynn Parris; daughter Joyce Shuman; daughters and sons-in-law, Gene Speicher, Reba and Ray Swafford, Cathy and Jimmy Ogle; sisters, Dorothy Landers and Paulin Runyon; 23 grandchildren, 72 great and great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Wood and Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Mike Shuman, Tony Rudeseal, Jackie Berry, David Stephenson, Greg Parris and Stephen Ogle.

Honorary pallbearers were Randy Berry Keith Shuman, Steven Shuman , Chris Shuman, Dale Stephenson, Donnie Stephenson, Jamie Ogle an Johnny Parris.

Mrs. Worthington

Mrs. Betty Moody Worthington, 75, of Cedartown passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006. She was born on Oct. 7, 1931.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Preston Worthington and parents Zula and Homer Moody, Sr.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Ruth Worthington of Cedartown, Bob and Scottie Worthington of Buchanan; sisters, Jeanette Morgan, Sara Moody and Shirley Redding all of Cedartown; brothers, Homer Moody, Jr. of Silverdale, Washington, Clinton Moody of Boaz, Ala., Paul Moody of Cedartown, and Harland Moody of Cedartown. Also surviving are four granddaughters and one grandson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was conducted on Friday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Tayve Morgan, Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Danny Tucker officiating. Also speaking was Olin L. Gammage III. Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers were Tony Schubert, Jay Chambers, Jan Redding, Wayne Gammon, Bill Brinkley and Larry Keith.

In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be made to the Heyman Hospice, 800 N. Broad St., Rome, Ga., 30161.

Mrs. Berry

Mrs. Geneva “Genny” Berry, 79, of Visalia and Fresno, Calif. and formerly of Cedartown, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, following an extended illness.

Prior to relocating and retiring to the California and Oregon area, Mrs. Berry was a longtime resident of Georgia. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, receiving her degree in Business Administration. During WWII she worked in the Naval Shipyard District of Charleston, S.C. and while there assisted in the Christening of the U.S. Naval Destroyer LSM406.

She had worked in publishing, retail and healthcare prior to her retirement in 1989. She was also active in a number of professional and civic groups and loved to do volunteer work in her community. She had served as campaign and public relations director for the T.B. Association for the Bay area, Executive Director of the Marin Co. T.B. Association, Program Director for the Tacoma T.B. Association and Program Associate for the Central Valley Heart Association.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Philip Berry and Diane; daughter, Jane Berry; four grandchildren; brother, James Wilson; sister, Hazel Kight; nieces and nephews also survive.

A private funeral service was conducted and she was interred next to her husband, James in Visalia, Calif.

The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Central Valley Heart Association, Fresno, Calif.

Mr. Brannon

Robert H. “Bob” Brannon, 70, of 89 Hunt Road, Cedartown, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2006.

He was born Oct. 17, 1935 in Cedartown.

Mr. Brannon was a member of the Woodstock Masonic Lodge No. 246 and worked as an Operating Engineer Union Local 926 for 30 plus years of services. He retired as the business manager.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Pauline Brannon; brothers, Jack Brannon and Tom Brannon.

Surviving are his wife, Robin J. Brannon of Cedartown; children, Karen Brannon of Rome, Janice Aycock and husband Scotty of Milledgeville, Robert Brannon, Jr. and wife Susan of Rockmart, Richard Brannon and wife Mary of Milledgeville; Scotty Brannon and wife Jackie of Washington, D.C.; Keith Moore and wife Misty of Powder Springs, Chris Moore and wife Balinda of Carrollton and Sherry Wilson and her husband, Robert of Lineviolee, Ala. Also surviving are a sister, Jolinda Hand of Jasper, Tenn., nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 17 in the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. R.B. Hulsey, Brenda Smith and Scott Brannon officiating.

Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens with full Masonic Rites conducted by the Woodstock Masonic Lodge No. 246.

Pallbearers were Masons from Woodstock Lodge No. 246, Caledonia Lodge No. 121 F&AM and Rockmart Daylight Lodge.
