An arrest was made in Cedartowns only murder in 2005. In 2004, no murders were reported. No arrests were made for manslaughter in 2005 or 2004. Two arrests were made for rape in 2005, though, while none were made in the previous year.
Arrests for other crimes also increased, some dramatically. Police arrested 168 for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, while 118 were arrested in 2004. For charges of disorderly conduct, police made 156 arrests, up significantly from 114 in 2004.
Alcohol related arrests were up significantly in 2005 as well. Police made 72 arrests last year for drunkenness. Forty-six were arrested in 2004. Thirty-eight arrests were made in 2005 for violation of the liquor and beer ordinance, up ten from 28 in 2004. Possession of alcohol by minors was responsible for 49 arrests in 2005, while only 38 were arrested for that crime in 2004.
While arrests for the above were up, it was traffic related offenses that showed the most gains.
With an increase of close to 1,000 arrests for traffic and motor vehicle law reached 2,610 in 2005, as opposed to 1,790 in the previous year. Speeding alone was responsible for 653 violations last year, up from 384 in 2004. Parking violations were at 199, up from 45.
As a result, only 482 accidents were reported in Cedartown in 2005, as opposed to 520 in 2004.
Arrests for some charges declined in 2005. Only three arrests were made in 2005 for forgery, whereas 20 had been made in 2004. Idling and loitering only accounted for three arrests in 2005, while 32 were made in 2004.
There was also much less property reported stolen in Cedartown in 2005 ($191,010) than in 2004 ($553,363.25). Police recovered $91,675 worth of that property in 2005. In 2004, $135,515.25 in stolen property was recovered.
