Qualifying will continue all this week for the Nov. 8 City of Cedartown’s Municipal Election, according to Carol Crawford, city clerk.

This year, three seats are up for elections currently held by Bert Wood Jr., Johnny Barrett and Wilburn Brown. City elections are held on a plurality vote, meaning the three candidates with the highest vote totals are the winners.

Candidates do not run against each other but simply for a seat on the panel.

Anyone wishing to qualify may do so at the City Clerk’s Office at 201 East Avenue between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Qualifying started Monday and will continue through Friday. The qualifying fee will be three percent of the annual salary or $54.

Anyone who wants to register to vote in the municipal vote may do so at any state approved registration site through October 11.

The Cedartown City Commission has five members who are elected for four-year terms. In 2007, the other two seats on the panel currently held by Ray Merritt and Bobby Alexander will be up for election.

Anyone needing additional information should contact Carol Crawford at 770-748-3220.
