County and Rockmart city officials were on hand today at the site of the new Rockmart Middle School to officially mark the beginning of the facility's construction.

Board of Education members, along with Superintendent of Polk Schools, were present for the much-anticipated event.

The new middle school has a budget of $15 million, but could cost less depending on materials used. The site is located behind the Rockmart High School, off Hwy. 113.

It is scheduled to open in the early fall of 2007.
