Cedartowns Wal-Mart Super Center will open in April, one month earlier than officials were hoping for.
Current Store Manager, Hope Radford, confirmed the grand opening date as Wednesday, April 19.
Radford said plans are under way for a big celebration.
Were working on setting up some kind of entertainment, and were trying to get local delegates involved in the grand opening, he said. Were also looking at getting the high school band involved as well.
Radford said the new gas station, part of the Super Centers set up, should be open by April 19 as well.
The manager also said that while several applications for employment in the new store have been turned in, there are still more employees needed. We still have a few positions we need to fill and we are still in the hiring process.
That will take several weeks.
Radford said a Subway restaurant would be located in the Super Center.
I think Cedartown is very excited about the store opening. Theyve been waiting to get a Super Center here in the community, instead of traveling to Rome or Bremen, Radford
said.
The annexation/rezoning ordinance for the Super Center was unanimously approved by the City Commission on March 14, 2005 after a public hearing that drew little opposition.
Wal-Mart had originally applied for annexation in January 2005.
The 150,000 square foot, six-million dollar Super Center will sit on 23 of the approximate 36 acres and offer traditional features unique to Wal-Mart Super Centers, such as a grocery store, one-hour photo center and hair salon, and will be open 24-hours a day.
