Red Flag Warning, fire watch remain in effect

A Red Flag warning remains in effect for 1 p.m. this afternoon until 8 p.m. this evening, for all of northwest Georgia, reflecting low relative humidity and other conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring, or will occur within 24 hours.

A Fire Weather Watch means that there is high potential for the development of critical fire weathr conditions in 12 to 72 hours.

Accordign to reports, dry fuel moisture conditions will combine with relative humidities of 25 percent or less tocreate dangerous fire contitions this afternoon and possibly again Wednesday afternooon.

These watches and warnings include the Oconee National Forest.

According to the NWS, a large area of high pressure will bring cool and dry conditiosn to the Southeastern United States today and Wednesday, creating conditions that favor accidental fires.

Humidity levels may fall as low as 15 percent in some areas of Georgia.

By Wednesday, dangerous fire conditions are expected to be a concern primarily in central Georgia, but could appear in northern counties as well.

In other weather reports, Tuesday is goign to remain cool, but warmer weather will move in Wednesday.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 32. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming south between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 82.

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70.

Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

Monday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74.
