Cedartown native Ryan Zebeau is making his final preparations for The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach presented by Wal-Mart.

The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach presented by Wal-Mart is a landmark event, offering 78 junior golfers the unprecedented opportunity to compete alongside 78 Champions Tour members and 156 amateurs in an official Champions Tour event. The first two rounds will be televised nationally on The Golf Channel, and the final round will be shown nationally on NBC.

“I’m really excited to have a Champions Tour event at Pebble Beach, it’s a perfect time of year and the opportunity to play with juniors is great for all of us,” said Champions Tour member Dave Stockton in a press release. “The First Tee involvement in this event is a great example of what the Champions Tour can now accomplish. I can’t think of a better place to work with juniors and build the base than in the Monterey Bay area.”

Zebeau, who plays golf at Cedartown High, is one of 50 juniors that qualified for the tournament through The First Tee Regional Open Qualifiers, which took place in Sacramento; Austin; Chicago; Philadelphia and Atlanta, during June and July.

The format for each Regional Open Qualifier was a single day, 18-hole, stroke-play elimination.

Additionally, 20 juniors earned a berth into The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach presented by Wal-Mart field through The First Tee Participant Selection Process.

Participants from Chapters across the country were evaluated both on and off the golf course, through a series of interviews, essays and a 36-hole proficiency event. The goal of the Selection Process was to recognize participants for their decorum, as well as their playing ability.

The remaining eight spots were determined by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, tournament host organization of The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach presented by Wal-Mart.

Zebeau has enjoyed a success summer and fall on the golf links as he has won various tournaments and competed in many more.

Zebeau has won the Optimist Club local qualifer tournament, the Rome Junior Golf Tour Stop and the Meadow Lakes Invitational. Zebeau also won the Optimist Club District qualifer tournament in Austell.
