The Cedartown Middle School competition cheerleaders won the Middle School state championship on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Gordon Central High School. The state championship win capped a solid season for the CMS squad.

The CMS team started the 2004-05 year by winning three first place trophies at the University of Georgia summer cheerleading camp. During the competition regular season, the CMS team won five first place trophies and one Grand Champion trophy.

“They worked so hard this year,” coach Nancy Timmons said in a written statement. “It is unbelievable how much time and hard work they put into this sport. They are very dedicated and love to cheer and compete.

“Every year I have wonderful girls who give me 100 percent. I am very lucky to be able to coach all of these girls.”

Out of the 19 cheerleaders on this years team, only six will be leaving the CMS squad. Those six are eighth graders that will be moving on to high school next year.

The state title was the second state championship in three years for the CMS squad. CMS won a state title in 2003, also under the guidance of Timmons.
