Cedartown firefighters were on the scene of a house fire Tuesday morning, which resulted in an estimated $20,000 in damages, officials said.
The fire occurred at 1600 Brooks St., and Cedartown firefighter Capt. Steve Manning, the officer in charge at the scene, said that the call came in from Polk County 911 at 9:19 a.m.
According to Manning, the cause of the fire was unable to be determined, but an investigation into the matter is likely to continue.
Manning stated that two juveniles, a 14-year-old male and two-year-old were at the home due to school being out at the time of the fire.
Neighbors on the scene called 911 and said that the two-year-old was able to alert the older sibling to the fire, who was taking a nap at the time. The children’s mother, neighbors said, had been at work.
One neighbor stated that she attempted to extinguish the fire, though, she said at that point the blaze was already fully involved.
The two children were able to escape the fire unharmed, Manning said.
Extensive damage was suffered to the entire front half of the residence, Manning said, including two bedrooms, the living room and the front porch.
Cedartown firefighters were busy Tuesday morning, as Manning said that the department received three other calls while on the scene of the Brooks Street fire. The other calls, though, were minor in comparison according to Manning.
