From reports:
On April 20, Cedartown Police officers were called to Casey’s Food Store to investigate an alleged robbery. Maria Perez, 23, told police that she was in the store’s parking lot when Johnny Claude Mitchell, 17, 425 Herbert St., threatened her with a knife. The suspect was said to have then grabbed the woman’s pocketbook before running towards Canal St.
That day, Officers Jon Zuker and Brandy Brady went to Mitchell’s Herbert St. address. The policemen reported that Mitchell was seen inside the residence, but when they gained entry, the suspect had left the premises.
Two days later, police were alerted that the robbery suspect was at a Herbert St. apartment complex. Sgt. Anthony Bowman went to the location and spotted Mitchell. As soon as the officer stepped from his patrol car, the suspect ran south towards Tubbs St.
Bowman and Officer John Pilgrim followed Mitchell, shouting several times for him to stop. The suspect was said to have jumped several fences in the process. During the chase, Bowman received a cut to his left hand, which, he said, did not require medical attention.
The suspect was finally stopped on Ware St.
During a subsequent examination, police found the alleged robbery weapon in Mitchell’s front pocket.
He was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, interference with government property and obstruction of an officer.
