Coosa Valley Technical College will sponsor the 22nd annual Polk County Adult Education Graduation and Awards Ceremony on Monday, June 18.

The ceremony will be at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cedartown.

Those who have earned the General Education Development (GED) High School Equivalency Diploma this school year will be honored with a cap and gown ceremony, followed by a reception for all graduates and guests.

In Polk, 119 adults are eligible to participate in this year’s ceremony.

Most of the adult graduating class of 2001 attended classes at CVTC, either in Rockmart or in Cedartown.

Three mothers and their children, age birth to four, represent the first ever graduates from the new Family Learning Center Project in Cedartown.

Other graduates attended evening classes in Cedartown or the Adult Learning Center at the Rockmart campus of CVTC. Twenty-eight percent of the graduates are already enrolled in degree, diploma or certificate programs in technical areas at CVTC which require the GED of high school diploma for admission.

Special awards will be presented during the ceremony to graduates with the highest achievements in academic areas and school life.

The GED Testing Program is administered by CVTC, under contact with the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education and the American Council on Education. GED tests are designed to test all of the major and lasting outcomes of a high school program and consists of tests in Writing Skills, Social Studies, Science, Literature and the Arts and Mathematics. Adults who are 18 years of age and out of school are eligible for testing, while special permission must be obtained for 16 and 17 year olds to test.
