Six Polk County drug traffickers were sentenced Thursday to more than 50 combined years in federal prison for their work in distributing narcotics from Texas.
Kris Green, 28, his wife Tammy Green, 30, his sister, Tara Ramey, 32, as well as Green’s girlfriend Kinsasha Middlebrooks, 25, were each sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court.
Their partners Robert Edmiston, 31, and John Gibbons, 37, were also sentenced during the string of hearings in the courtroom of Judge Harold L. Murphy.
According to a Sept. 6, 2000, federal indictment by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the team was involved in the distribution of at least 10 pounds of cocaine and almost two ounces of crack cocaine.
Investigators say there is no way to know the quantity of drugs sold during the eight months the drug team operated between 1999 and 2000.
The team, led by Kris Green, would use rental vehicles to carry up to eight pounds of cocaine from Texas to Rockmart, where they would convert it to crack cocaine, said Cartersville Police Capt. Frank McCann.
That supply would provide them with a steady stream of drugs for street-level dealers in Cartersville, Rockmart, Cedartown and Rome, he said.
The Cartersville police, Rome-Floyd Metro Drug Task Force, Bartow County Sheriff’s Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Polk County police, GBI, FBI and DEA combined to shut down the drug operation.
McCann said the satisfaction that comes from convictions in a drug case never lasts long.
“Anytime we make a good arrest there are a lot of others who are willing to step up and replace them,” McCann said.
Green was sentenced to 14 years and four months in prison. He pleaded guilty Jan. 24 to charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Middlebrooks was sentenced to eight years and six months. She pleaded guilty Jan. 29 to charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute.
Gibbons was sentenced to eight years and two months. He pleaded guilty Feb. 23 to charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute.
Ms. Green was sentenced to eight years based on her Feb. 16 guilty plea to charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute.
Edmiston was sentenced to seven years and eight months in federal prison. He pleaded guilty on Jan. 24 to charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute.
Ramey was sentenced to four years in prison. She pleaded guilty Jan. 24 to charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute.
