When two-year-old Eric Hernandez died from injuries sustained after falling from the deck of a residence on May 17, his death left the small child’s family deeply saddened and financially burdened, as the family has no burial insurance.

To help with burial costs, friends of the Hernandez family have set up the Eric Hernandez Burial Fund at the Cedartown Regions Bank, located on 120 N. Main St. Donations may be made at any area Regions location.

Anyone wishing to make food donations may do so by calling family member Terri Lara at 770-748-2651.

Eric Hernandez, who would have turned three on July 12, passed away after falling from a deck at the back of an Edgewood Drive residence.

Polk County Police Reports state that after Polk Emergency Medical Services stabilized the child, he was transported to a landing zone at Cedartown High School and flown by life flight helicopter to Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center in Atlanta.

According to Polk County Coroner Trey Litesey, the small child was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

Officials at Gammage Funeral Home said they are assisting the family with funeral costs, though friends of the family believe it will still take around $3,000 to bury the child.

One reason for the high burial cost is a casket that is being specially made for Eric Hernandez because of his small size.

Eric Hernandez was being raised by a single mother, Mayra Hernandez.
