Kathy Carr, a teacher at Cherokee Elementary School, has been chosen by the Polk School District as the systemwide "Teacher of the Year" for 2000-2001. Carr has been teaching for 17 years, according to Cherokee principal Dale Freeman, who presented Carr as a candidate for the honor at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday. The honoree is shown above with Russ Edge, teacher at Cedartown High School. Both educators joined 10 of their teaching peers who were nominated by their schools for the honor.
