After a domestic incident, a suspect escaped police custody on Friday, October 4.
According to reports:
Police were called to the Willows Mobile Home Community at 634 Georgia Avenue in regards to a domestic conflict. Mary Jane Ray, 32, notified officers that she came home on October 4 and found her brother on the telephone. William Jessie Akins, 22, supposedly used a knife to gain entrance into the home.
Ray confronted her brother and the two left the residence. Once at their mother’s home, Akins hit Ray and pushed her down. Akins then fled the scene.
After alerting police, Akins was arrested at a Clyde Drive residence. Officers handcuffed the suspect, positioning his hands behind his back. He was then placed in a patrol car.
While police spoke with Ray and her mother, Akins apparently rolled a window down and climbed out of the car with his handcuffs still attached. As of presstime, police have been unable to locate the suspect.
