The Mamie R. Hammock 7th Annual Memorial Scholarship Fund Banquet will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 7 p.m. in the Cedartown High School cafeteria.

The speaker, Phyllis Clark Lowery of Atlanta, was born and reared in Demopolis, Ala. where she finished U.S. Jones High School.

She received her undergraduate degree in English from Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) in 1958 and her Master’s degree in Library Services and her Specialist in Library and Information Studies from Atlanta University in 1977 and 1982, respectively.

Lowery, who was an English teacher at Cedar Hill Middle School, completed further study at Atlanta University and Georgia State University.

She was a Staff Librarian at Arkansas State College (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), and, from 1965 to 1993, she was the Library/Media Specialist for Atlanta Public School System.
