Voting polls are scheduled to close today at 7 p.m. for the General Primary Election.

All Polk County citizens registered to vote are encouraged to participate in this election.

Voting precincts are as follows:

Lake Creek voters should report to Cedar Lake Christian Center, 1890 Rome Highway instead of the fire station, 525 Lake Creek Road, Cedartown.

Aragon’s site has been moved from the Aragon Community Center, No. 2 Elm Street to the new Municipal Complex, 2814 Rome Highway.

Other precinct locations are: Antioch, 3460 Morgan Valley Road; Blooming Grove, 3111 Johnson Lake Road; Browning, 557 Maner Road; Cedartown, Goodyear Civic Center, 100 Prior Street; Esom Hill, 1329 Shilo Road; Fish Creek, Victory Baptist Church, 15 Hendrix Road; Prior Station, New Harmony Baptist Church, 951 Prior station Road; Rockmart, Rockmart Community Center, 436 Hogue Avenue; Youngs, 812 Youngs Farm Road.

Four local races will likely draw the most attention in today’s General Primary Election that will also include a number of state-wide races.

Three of the races being contested today involve the Polk County Board of Commissioners. The fourth race is a seat on the School Board of Education.

Four additional local offices, however, will not have any opposition, as only the incumbents qualified in June.

The District 2 seat on the Polk County Board of Commissioners has the largest pool of qualifiers. Four Democrats will be challenging incumbent Frank Lott.

They are Mark Sullins, Thomas Wray, Donnie McKibben, and J.D. “Boober” Jolly.

Also, three Republican challengers are going head to head in the primary, Angela Strickland, Kent Angel and Leroy Peugh for the District 2 seat.

In the District 1 Commissioner race, incumbent Mike Hooper is squaring off with newcomer Sandra Galloway.

Likewise in District 3, incumbent Billy Williams is being challenged by Don Williams for the third Commissioner seat.

The winner here will take the District 3 seat and run unopposed in November.

The only school board race having any opposition is for District 6, currently held by Dan Forsyth of Rockmart, a Democrat.

Betty Faye Lewis, a Democrat, is running for the position.

Only voters in District 6 will be allowed to cast ballots in that contested race.
