A former Cedartown High School graduate, Kevin Bullard has scored an impressive finish in the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship held recently at Laurel Springs in Suwanee.

Bullard advanced to a match off against Pinnacle extreme distance member Brian Nash. In the match off Nash’s longest ball hit was 336 yards against the wind while Bullard’s longest ball was 340 yards but it landed in the grid and rolled out of bounds, just 3 yards shy of claiming $10,000.

Bullard would end up placing third in the finals behind Greg Wellong and Mike Moulton. Bullard had a 354 yard in the finals while Wellong’s 361 claimed first.

The former Arizona Diamondback signer beat some very impressive foes on his way to the finals including 2001 World Long Drive Champion Sean Fister, 2000 World Long Drive Champion Victor Johansson, and Dan Boever, a six time World Long Drive Finalist.

According to an official publication the RE/MAX World Long Drive is exactly that, long driving.

It’s an event were Clubhead speeds reach 150 mph and startles first-time spectators with the exploding sound of the ball off the club face. Nearly 15,000 competitors represent a dozen countries spanning four continents.

The National Tournament is held in Mesquite, Nevada where district level winners join exempt competitors for the finals, creating a 96-person field for the open division, 48 for the senior division, and 16 for the women’s division.

The Long Drive competition allows each player five minutes to hit six golf balls into a 45-yard- wide grid and only their best shot gets measured. The LDA does not have an official tour yet but hopes to have one soon.
