Police arrest man for driving truck into home; two charged with drugs and shoplifting
Cedartown police made an arrest after a vehicle ran into a home on Nov. 22, the second such incident over the last several days.
From Polk County Jail records and Cedartown police reports:
Jesus Gomez, 25, of 100 Whitiker Dr., was arrested and charged with striking a fixed object, reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving while unlicensed and driving too fast for conditions.
Cedartown police were dispatched to 216 Atlanta St., in reference to a vehicle striking the residence.
A large hole was found in the foundation at the rear of the home and the water pipes were found to be broken.
There were tire tracks in the yard coming from the alleyway leading to the home, and the vehicle that had reportedly struck the residence was found in the front yard.
The vehicle, a 1994 black Chevrolet C1500, had damage to the driver’s side hood, fender and bumper, as well as concrete residue on the hood and fresh mud covering both sides.
Police found Gomez standing in the yard, who denied being the driver of the vehicle that struck the home - though, Gomez was found to be in possession of the keys to the truck.
While speaking with Gomez, police noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. He was also reported to be very unsteady on his feet and his eyes were red and watery.
A witness to the incident stated that he saw the truck racing down Atlanta Street seconds before the accident.
He stated that he heard the accident and then saw Gomez get out of the driver’s seat after parking in the front yard.
Gomez was then arrested and taken to the Cedartown Police Department for booking and to the Polk County Jail for housing.
VGCSA
Two suspects were charged with methamphetamine possession after they were arrested for shoplifting.
From Cedartown Police reports:
Mitchell Ryan McChargue, 19, of 646 Hillside Dr., was arrested and charged with violating the Georgia Controlled Substance Act (VGCSA) for possession of methamphetamine, theft by shoplifting and party to a crime.
Lorrie Ponder, 17, of 1285 Mountain Home Road, was arrested and charged with VGCSA for possession of methamphetamine and theft by shoplifting.
Police were called to the Dollar General, 420 S. College St., in reference to two suspects that had attempted to shoplift inside the store.
Police found McChargue and Ponder in the parking lot of the business.
Ponder was found to have a bag of candy hidden in the waistband of her pants.
After taking the suspects back to the store, police confirmed that the type of candy found in Ponder’s possession was sold in the store.
The two suspects were then arrested and taken to the Cedartown Police Department.
While in the patrol vehicle, police noted McChargue acting suspiciously.
Upon arrival at the police department, police found a bag of suspected methamphetamine underneath the back floorboard of the patrol vehicle, resulting in the additional charge of VGCSA.
