The Cedartown Storm won the seven-year-old league championship at the Rome YAI league, a Dizzy Dean affiliate that plays baseball behind the Levee.
The Storm went 11-2 to achieve top status in the league. For winning first place, the team was presented with trophies on May 21. The trophies were handed out by Vice President and Head Umpire Eddie Disgby and Field Vice President Robert Ballard.
Ty Tracy of the Storm was awarded with the highest batting average in the seven-year-old league with a batting average of .848. Tracy was presented a medal for his accomplishment.
Also, players Will Pilgrim and Eli Wigley were honored as Pilgrim hit three home runs during the regular season and Wigley had two. Wigley topped off his season with an additional two roundbaggers in the City/County Tournament.
Wigley was the only seven-year-old in the league to hit a homer on the seven-year-old field.
Players on the team were Griffin Elder, Nolan Holland, Cooper Malone, Carson Shelton, Austin Welchel, Tyler Dennis, Chase Swafford, Will Pilgrim, Taji Hudson, Eli Wigley and Ty Tracy.
The coaching staff was made up of Chad Swafford, Jeff Pilgrim, Bob Tracy, Brad Dennis, David Shelton and Chris Welchel.
The Storm coaching staff said they were very proud of this team and would like to thank the players, parents, families and everyone involved with Rome YAI baseball. They also would like to mention that they are looking forward to playing again behind the Levee.
