The Cedartown Fire Department, along with members of the Cedartown Police and Polk County Sheriff Departments, responded to a structure fire at 112 Alexander Ct. at around 10 a.m. this morning.

According to Cedartown Fire Department Chief Sammy Stephens, the fire originated in the kitchen, though it was not immediately known exactly what started the blaze. Stephens did say that a candle burning in the kitchen, or the dishwasher are the most likely sources.

Stephens added that the fire was accidental.

According to Stephens, the residence received a fair amount of fire damage in the kitchen. Other moderate damages to the rest of the house were caused by smoke. Stephens added that there was minimal structural damage to the home.

The fire department arrived at the house and quickly put the fire out. The difficult part, however, was clearing the house of smoke.

Firefighters set up a large fan in the garage area of the home to push all of the smoke out of the house.
